Beta servers close
Posted by: Vini -- 8:14 PM EST

Without much announcing, today by around 8pm EST the Chaos had risen up in the lands of Beta Nexus 6.5, the last one to ever happen in the testing.

It was a very good experience (in both meanings) to all who tested it, enjoyed it and helped to clean the bugs for the New client of Real nexus come working fine and ready to go. The Kru Inc. staff has posted on Nexus TK official website the announcements of the close of Beta server, here's a copy taken directly from it:

  • Open beta ends!

We want to thank everyone who participated in the beta. The help of our beta testers has been a great asset to the Nexus 6.5.

We will take a few days to prepare and package the release client, then we will announce a release date. We hope to be able to announce a release date very shortly. We will give everyone around a week to download the client in preparation of the launch. We will also have a much smaller download available for our beta testers. So hang on to your beta client!

After launch we plan to release a string of updates for the new client. Our first goal is to allow customization of the colors and the size of the text in the new client. After that we'll have content updates, new areas, items and more.

There is a ton of potential in this new client upgrade. We hope to utilize it to the fullest. We are very excited about the future of Nexus! More news to come!

Special thanks to Kru staff and all the players who went there to help test and improve Nexus 6.5!

    Beta Ends Tommorow (September 27th)
Posted by: Nagnag -- 7:49 PM EST

As posted by Kru on Dreamweaver in Beta:

The beta test will end on Tuesday Sept 27. I want to thank everyone who participated in the beta. We uncovered and fixed a lot of stuff over the past few weeks.

We will take a few days to prepare and package the release client, then we will announce a release date. We will give players about a week to download the client in preparation of the launch. We will also have a much smaller download available for our beta testers. So hang on to your beta client!

We will be releasing a stream of updates for the new client after it is released. I'll let you guys in on some of the things we'l be working on after the release of the new client:

We'll have a new way to chop wood, as well as other more interesting ways to collect wood and crafting materials.
(We've also implemented a host of new features to detect auto-cutters. These will be available to the Archons and will help alert them to AFK lumberjacks.)

New hair styles and colors, and beards.

We've got two new areas in the works.

A bunch of new weapons and armors.

New spells for each class and subpath.

And of course, Sa san trials.

We will be also be making improvements and adjustments to the usability of the client itself. Our first goal is to allow you to customize the colors and adjust the size of the text in the new client.

There is a ton of potential in this new client upgrade. We hope to utilize it to the fullest. We are very excited about the future of Nexus!

So hang onto that Beta client like Kru said, and it won't be such a big download!

    Today's Events
Posted by: Rachel -- 10:16 PM EST

There are several posts being made about hackings and compromised passwords.

I spoke with Marama, who was kind enough to clear things up a bit. Kru wasn't hacked and your passwords are safe. However, she wasn't at liberty to discuss the specifics of what did happen.

Based on the people who did it though, I'll assume that it was similar to the troubles they caused in the past.. and that the beta server didn't have the corrections that were made on the other one. After all, Kru did say this about the server: (A few days ago)

Regardless of the cause, there was a reset and the problem seems to be fixed now. However, this is a good time to remind you that you should be regularly changing your passwords anyhow!

Please Note: If you change your password in the 6.5 beta, it won't be changed in the 5.3 client. Likewise, if you change your password in 5.3, it won't be changed in the 6.5 beta.

6.5 Beta test comment by Kru
Posted by: Conro -- 11:54 PM EST

As posted in NexusForums by a Kru Games Rep.

Here is an update on the beta test. Everything is ready to go, except the client. The machine that we use to make the installer is having some technical problems. Its a machine that hasn't been used in quite a long time. Installation software licenses costs several thousands of dollars, and they come with a bunch of restrictions about where and how we can install it. So its not as simple as installing the stuff to a new machine.

Anyway, its late so we all left for the night. We'll have it fixed by tomorrow. And if not then we'll put up a zip file or something until we can get the installer working.

Its always the little things that nobody accounts for.

    :)

    Autocutters beware!
Posted by: LordDryn -- 8:14 PM EST

It seems like the recent reset brought a few additions to crack down on autocrafting and macro use. Previously, autocutters received a "serious other" branding; now they will bear a much more specific mark, "Arrest for autocutting".

Besides a shiny new branding specific to autocutting, woodcutters will now occasionally notice a popup aimed at thwarting macro use. This popup appears randomly when gathering to make macro use much less practical.

    Happy crafting. ;)

    Warthog changes
Posted by: Vini -- 8:00 PM EST

With today's reset another change was noticed by community, a change in the look of Warthog the boss of Kugnae snake cave. Now the Warthog really looks like a warthog as in the picture below, the blue animal:

To those who don't remember the old look of this cave "Warthog", here's an image which shall refresh your memory, although his dye was winter blue:

Special thanks to Squallmage for informing about this change.

    Responses from Kru!
Posted by: Rachel -- 7:14 PM EST

Here are the responses to the list of questions we sent to Kru. It wasn't easy to decide which 10 questions would make the cut, but we did our best. Hopefully we'll get a chance to submit another list of questions in the future. ^.^

On behalf of NexusAtlas, I would like to thank both Marama and Kru for making this possible.

1.NA: During the last round of questions, we were told that a full feature list of the new client would be released soon. Is the feature list ready to be released now?

Kru: The feature list will be available at the same time as the open beta announcement. [See Flamethrower's news post - Rach] The reason for the delay is that we're still not sure yet what features might need to get scrapped or delayed for compatibility reasons. We'll know for sure by the time the open beta test opens.

2.NA: We've been told every upgrade that a new client doesn't bring new items, quests, or caves to the kingdoms; instead it can give the GM the potential to create all of these things. So our question is how long will we have to wait until we start to see the full potential of the new client?

Kru: Are you sure you want to know dates? kru's law states that any time an official date is given for a project, that project's actual release date gets pushed back by 2 months. Well, you asked.. Here is a tentative schedule to show where our efforts will largely be focused. It will probably be changed, but here it is for now.

    New client release.
1-2 weeks later: Patch (to fix minor stuff thats bound to be missed).
    2-3 weeks later: Event.
    2-4 weeks later: New area.

3.NA: Will online features such as the user pages and house directories be updated for the new look of the game? Also, will the online archon list ever be updated?

Kru: The online user list was a pet project that never got official support. It'll get updated whenever someone has time to update it.

4.NA: We saw a small hint of Han's arrival. Could you tell us anything about this?

Kru: Han is temporarily frozen in carbonite.

5.NA: Many find it frustrating, costly, and sometimes risky to transfer items between two of their own characters on the same account. Will Kru develop a way for players to mass exchange items between the banks of their own characters? Can you provide Elders and Primogens with a bank character so that they dont have to use one of their own characters, expecially if the account bank feature is implemented?

Kru: This is technically impossible, so no.

6.NA: When will the Sa san quest be released? Have any spells or trials been designed yet? If not, should players post their suggestions on the dreams board?

Kru: John Carmack said it best, "It'll be ready when its ready." Suggestions are always good.

7.NA: Will we ever see the return of loved historical figures such as Sagu, the Zibong, or KaKhan? Will there be another Events Archon who will create more events for us?

Kru: There already is an events archon, sort of. All archons are capable of creating events. They can use any storyline they'd like, or create a whole new one. One of the recent events (blight and the four) was thought up and implemented by Joomi and Ahalya. I believe Neul and Kisaeng are cooking up something with some old faces.

8.NA: The community has several debates on issues like subpath balance, polearms, and the justice system. Would you consider bringing back the F1 survey feature to help resolve these as well as other game issues?

Kru: The F1 survey is not likely to be showing up again. We follow discussions about issues of balance in all types of different media. We read discussions on the different game bulletin boards. We read balance discussions on several fansite forums. We also play normal, mundane characters every day and listen to what the players that we're grouped with say. The data gleaned from these types of activities is far more useful and informative than the data provided by the survey feature.

9.NA: Profanity is the easiest crime to prove so players are punished for it most often. Will Kru implement new features to help with the proof for major crimes like murder, theft, scamming, hacking, and character sharing? What can you say to players who feel that the punishment is often disproportionate to the crime?

Kru: If you think about it, "Hacking" and "Character sharing" are not crimes that your characters should be aware of. They're not crimes in ancient korea, so they don't need to be handled by any game justice. Character sharing and hacking should be reported to our Support team via a support ticket. The support team is trained to investigate and deal with each report. "Theft" is technically impossible. Your character must give an item away or drop it, thus losing ownership of it. Scams that involve the use of a bug (such as the old market stall bug) should be reported, so the bug can be verified and fixed. Scams that involve another player's house or the Barbarian Push spell, or something of that nature aren't something we can do much about. The Barbarians don't like people who use Push for nefarious purposes. But the best advice is never drop an item that you don't want to lose. Suggestions on what can be done are always good.

10..NA: In the past we have had open forums, both within the game and in the NexusAtlas chat room, where players were able to directly ask their questions to the archons or Kru staff members. Will there be more of these forums in the future?

Kru: Magic 8-ball says, "Outlook not so good."

    Server reset changes
Posted by: Vini -- 4:59 PM EST

About 4 hours ago the Nexus servers were all reset so a few things could be changed/added. Here's the list posted on Nexus TK official website of the new additions to nexus today:

  • Fixed all offline processes, such as clan and subpath demote/remove, board title/admin rights, etc.
    New Muse spell added.
    New Barbarian spell added.

    Map Updates:
    Map update for Enigma clan.
    Map update for Oceana clan.

    Minor Fixes:
    Minor fixes for Elendhirin clan.
Minor fixes for Lost Kingdom clan.
    Minor fixes for Enigma clan.
    Minor fixes for Oceana clan.

Elder Aelis from the Muse subpath has made a post on community board explaining about the new spell they got. Seems to be a new mark involved with the Muse College, more information about it will be out as soon as we find about it.
